Ten Dollar Pasta and More This Week

The much-beloved restaurant by James Beard Award semifinalist Michael Pirolo serving Italian cuisine will be offering discounted pasta dishes all day until Thursday. Try something like the cacio e pepe with pecorino and fresh pepper or go for the short rib and taleggio accented lasagna.

Have you ever thought about learning how to cook…with plants? You can do just that by participating in one of the two cooking classes being held at Plant Miami’s culinary academy. Today, you’ll be able to learn how to prepare raw vegan soups. Tomorrow, the focus shifts to pasta, including turnip ravioli. Tickets for the classes range from $65 to $125.

Speaking of Wednesdays, Ms. Cheezious over on Biscayne Boulevard is offering all you can eat fried chicken for $30 a person tomorrow. The price also includes unlimited sides.

All Systems Go for the Miami Beach Convention Center Hotel

After a long journey, the firm of Arquitectonica which has worked on several buildings throughout South Florida has had its design plans for the $362 million Miami Beach Convention Center Hotel approved. The decision was unanimous and will now proceed to the stage where details such as privacy barriers and the look of balcony railings will be ironed out.

With the Arquitectonica approval, the road is largely, if not entirely clear for the 800-room Miami Beach Convention Center Hotel which will all be a part of the experience which includes the massively revamped convention center. The hotel has been in the works for some time but there were setbacks, including those by Miami Beach voters who did not agree to a pair of previous proposals which included a 288-foot-tall hotel.

Once the Miami Beach Convention Center Hotel is built and operational, it will include a number of features include more than 300 valet spaces, a bridge that will connect the hotel to the convention center, a parking garage, and over 20,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. As for the size of the hotel rooms, they are expected to range from 370 to 1,319 square feet.

What to Do in Miami Beach This Summer

Miami Beach’s Newest Food Hall Opens Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the big day, ladies and gentlemen. The hotly anticipated Time Out Market is finally opening its doors to the Miami Beach public. This sprawling 17,000+ square foot food hall will have over sixteen different eateries consisting of local and well-known names.

Time
Out Market made its debut in Lisbon, Portugal where it quickly became a popular
attraction among tourists. By focusing on hiring the finest culinary talent in
the city and placing them all under a single roof, the food hall has taken off.
Best of all, the majority of the food items in Time Out Market hover around $20
and under, which means you won’t have to break the bank to enjoy a great meal
in the barrier island.

When
you first step foot inside Time Out Market, the sheer amount of options
available may seem overwhelming, but it’s largely a matter of taking the time
to find what you like. Once you’ve checked out the menus and found something
you like, you’ll receive a pager that will buzz when your order is ready. Do
keep in mind, however, that if you intend to pay in cash then you’ll need to
head to the main entrance to purchase a Time Out card from the food hall
concierge.

Where to Eat in April

Every so often, we like to highlight some of the best places to enjoy a meal in South Florida. You can never have too many options when it comes to food choices, so why limit yourself? Here are some suggestions to consider as we make it through the rest of April.

The Jim and Neesie is located inside the recent Generator Hostel, on Collins Avenue right here in Miami Beach. Enjoy a variety of drinks plus cocktails and plenty of distinct dishes like crispy skin airline chicken or the citrus roasted carrots. The ambiance is the perfect fusion of hip yet approachable.

Moving over to neighbor Miami, Maska on 1^st Avenue features an Indian inspired menu courtesy of Michelin level chef Hemant Mathur. The menu also incorporates some modern dishes. Some items you may wish to try include duck-filled tacos, one of the various stuffed breads, or maybe the much beloved tandoori lamb chops.

Just north of Maska is Swan & Bar Bevy. A collaborative effort by David Grutman (a local Miami hospitality mogul), singer and producer Pharrell Williams, and Europe Top Chef winner Jean Imbert, this place offering a “modern chic” has the glitz, the glam, and the taste. Go for the caviar tossed spaghetti or head upstairs for a drink at Bohemian-influenced Bar Bevy.

Miami Is Ready to Proceed with Its Miami Beach Transit Plan

After much evaluation, Miami city commissioners have decided to proceed with the highly anticipated beach corridor transit plan that will connect the city to its neighbor Miami Beach. Part of Miami’s Strategic Miami Area Rapid Transit (SMART) Plan which was introduced back in 2017, the ambitious effort focuses on implementing premium transit technology as well as an express bus express network. This premium transit may include a light rail system.

Part of the elaborate transit plan would focus on Miami to Miami Beach as well as improved transit between 5th Street at Alton Road in Miami Beach to the Government Center in Downtown Miami and other areas. These rapid transit corridors and express buses are at least partially aimed at increasing connectivity and transportation for nearly eighty percent of Miami-Dade residents that travel beyond their residential district to get to their jobs every day.

Scooters Are Returning to Miami Beach in March

Miami Beach made headlines last year when the city decided to crack down on the use of scooters. Frequently seen during the spring break festivities, citations and accidents involving scooters reach their peak during this time. To deal with this, the city decided to completely ban the rental of scooters during the entire month of March. The news was not well-received by scooter rental companies, for obvious reasons.

Changes are afoot, however. Last week, Miami Beach commissioners came together and decided to re-evaluate their scooter ban decision. While the scooters are no longer strictly banned during March’s entirety, business owners must ensure that all scooters have a kill switch and a GPS device. Additionally, each scooter must have unique identification and a phone number that is clearly visible should it be necessary to report the rider for being unruly. If the tip is confirmed, the scooter business would press an engine disabling button. The scooter will be towed and the rider would lose their deposit, which can be as much as $400.

Pitbull’s iLov305 Celebrates in Miami Beach

Are you looking for a new Miami Beach hotspot to try this month? Well, have we got the place for you! “Mr. Worldwide” (better known by his stage names of Pitbull) is getting ready to open the doors to his highly anticipated new restaurant called iLov305, located right here in Miami Beach on the corner of 11^th and posh Ocean Drive.

Earlier this week, Pitbull threw a massive party to celebrate the grand opening of iLov305. Though the eatery won’t welcome guests until the end of January, the 9,000 square foot venue is already poised to become Ocean Drive’s newest place to be. Guests will be able to dine on a menu consisting of Latin steakhouse meets tropical cuisine and there will be plenty of people to get to meet. Besides the wait staff, iLov305 is expected to welcome acts such as singers to perform. Additionally, guests will have the opportunity to sip on more than forty different mojito types at the restaurant’s mojito bar.

Pitbull (real name Armando Christian Perez) has become synonymous with the Magic City. The Miami native has released ten albums, the most recent being Climate Change released in 2017. When he isn’t performing, the rapper has concentrated on educational initiatives aimed at reducing poverty.

South Beach’s Upcoming Public Park

South Beach is about to get a little prettier, ladies and gentlemen. The Miami Beach City Commission gave the okay last week to a project that will pretty up the South Beach area. Using a trio of empty lots near what was once the South Shore Hospital, the area will be turned into a public park spanning three acres as well as a luxury condo and retail space. The project comes after more than ninety meetings and several months of ongoing negotiations.

In regards to the luxury tower, it will stand 519 feet tall and rise 44 stories into the Miami Beach skyline. The retail space will encompass well over 10,000 square feet. Both projects will be situated near West Avenue and Alton Road not far from the MacArthur Causeway entrance. The public park—besides beautifying the area—will also serve as a “sponge” of sorts to soak up floodwater.

The developer behind the public park and condo project will have a timeframe of two and a half years to complete the park’s first section and then a total of eight years to finish it. The park will feature elevated walkways plus water absorption components intended to assist Miami Beach with tackling climate change.
