The World’s Best Pizza Is Coming to Miami Beach

Just about everyone can appreciate a good slice of pizza. However, not all pizza is created equal and you’ve probably had a slice or two that you weren’t too fond of. Miami Beach has no shortage of pizza places that have received high ratings, but they may soon be overshadowed by the world’s best pizza.

In Naples, Italy, Gino Sorbillo is something of a celebrity. His pizza is often regarded as being the best in the country and apparently, it’s so good it was even blessed by none other than Pope Francis himself! Despite the tremendous praise, Sorbillo takes an uncomplicated approach to making his highly-regarded pies.

If you’re curious to see whether the lofty praise heaped on Gino Sorbillo is true, you’ll soon be able to try it for yourself when Sorbillo opens its doors right here in Miami Beach on Wednesday, October 30. The restaurant menu will have a variety of Neapolitan-style pizza in classic and seasonal varieties plus foods like pasta, calzones. And more. In keeping with the tradition of the other locations in Tokyo, New York, Naples, and Milan, the pizzas ranging from $16 to $28 will be limited to 300 per day on a first-come, first-serve basis. This limit does not apply to the rest of the menu.

Sorbillo will be located at 100 Collins Avenue.

Where to Enjoy Stone Crab in Miami Beach

Today, the classic Miami Beach restaurant Joe’s Stone Crab on Washington Avenue is celebrating its 106th season, welcoming diners looking to try some of the best stone crabs in South Florida. Since it doesn’t accept reservations, you may run into difficulties in getting a table. In the meantime, you can try a couple of other places serving stone crab and great seafood.

Gianni’s at the Villa Casa Casuarina on Ocean Drive is found in the mansion that was once the home of late fashion designer Gianni Versace. The ambiance is upscale and you can dine on chilled stone crab claws.

Also on Washington Avenue is Lobster Bar Sea Grille. Starting tomorrow, it will start serving jumbo stone crab claws and even colossal ones when they are available. If you’d prefer to explore the Time Out Market food hall, Salt & Brine is a raw bar that is celebrating the stone crab season for the first time.

Stripsteak by Michael Mina on Collins Avenue is found in the popular Fontainebleau Miami Beach. Try some of the freshly caught stone crab claws caught daily available in jumbo, colossal, and even supercolossal sizes served with the restaurant’s signature dijonnaise.

Get Ready for the 106th Season of Joe’s Stone Crab

One of the best times of the year in South Florida is the stone crab season and one of the best places to celebrate it is at Joe’s Stone Crab. This iconic Miami Beach mainstay will be opening its doors to celebrate its 106th season on October 15 at 5 pm sharp.

Joe’s Stone Crab is named after Joe Weiss and its history goes back to 1913. Born in Hungary and living in New York, Weiss arrived in Miami Beach with the hopes of finding some relief for his asthma. Joe and his wife originally opened a shack focused on seafood located on Collins Avenue. After an ichthyologist noticed the many stone crabs in the area, he brought them to the attention of Joe Weiss, asking whether they were suitable to eat.

Today, Joe’s Stone Crab is notable for attracting notable names including actors, politicians, and athletes. Despite its popularity and many years of operation, it remains a a family-owned and operated restaurant. A notable aspect of the restaurant is its stance on reservations, which it does not do. Hence, anyone who wants to dine there should arrive early or they may have to wait several hours before they can be seated.

The Best Bar in Florida Calls Miami Beach Its Home

What places would you think of if someone were to ask you which bars in South Florida were the best? You may have some favorites in Miami Beach, but is there a specific one that you’re fond of? A single bar in Miami Beach was named as one of the world’s top 100 bars, and that honor was bestowed on Sweet Liberty, located on 20th Street.

Sweet Liberty managed to rank 67th place in the list of the world’s best bars. This yearly ranking is determined by several global experts in all things drink. In addition to the loft ranking, Sweet Liberty also earns the distinction of being the sole bar in all of Florida to be named on the list.

The Sweet Liberty drinks are creatively named and the ingredients suggest that its ranking is well-earned. You can try the cleverly named Basic Bitch featuring ingredients like St. Germain, Aylesbury Duck Vodka, lemon, and Prosecco strawberry. For something celebratory, consider the limited Dancing Queen. The pandan leaf stock, Absolut Elyx, offcuts oleo, fresh pineapple, and Ancho Verde drink comes served in a disco ball bowl, adding to its unique presentation.

Sweet Liberty is open from 4 pm to 5 am Monday through Saturday. On Sundays its hours are noon to 5 am.

New Events for Next Year’s South Beach Wine & Food Festival

The South Beach Wine & Food Festival isn’t returning until February of next year yet plans are already underway to make the 2020 event bigger and better than ever. As the case has been in previous years, new events are in the works, all centered around great food and social experiences. Let’s explore a highlight or two.

You may know Samantha Schnur of The Naughty Ford. She will be hosting the Chef Mashup, a late-night event where a bunch of Miami’s finest chefs will bring their acclaimed dishes together for a night of fun and food celebration. The event is being held at Ace Props Miami and will kick off at 10 pm on February 20 and continue until midnight at Ace Props Miami.

The Wynwood- based Zak the Baker is welcoming Gospel & Falafel on Friday, February 21, a late-night event featuring plenty of saccharine treats. Min. Desmond Jackson & the Sovereign Ministries will perform the music while you try the delicious bites. Similar to Chef Mashup, the event kicks off at 10 pm and ends at midnight.

Few people say not to pizza. Michael Schwartz is bringing a late-night pizza party called Sliced: A Genuine Pizza Party to Jungle Plaza in Miami. Pizza in all types of shapes and sizes will be offered at this event while the rock band Hails unleashes its musical talent. Make sure to bring your appetite!

Do Your Hair, Have a Drink at The Blind Barber

When is the last time you visited The Nautilus by Arlo Hotel in Miami Beach? If it’s been a while, the hotel is probably not going to look the way you remember it. The city’s instantly recognizable Art Deco property recently received a considerable facelift, and the results appear to be earning it lots of praise.

A major highlight of The Nautilus by Arlo Hotel’s makeover is the small, trendy cocktail lounge nestled in the lobby called The Blind Barber. The name originated in New York where the first Blind Barber opened its door in the city’s East Village nine years ago. The Blind Barber can also be found in Los Angeles and Chicago.

True to its name, The Blind Barber functions as a classic barbershop and salon during the day but then transforms into a stylish bar when night falls. You can visit during the day, get your hair done for a night on the town and then return in the evening through the back doors of the shops for drinks and a fun time. Drink options include handcrafted cocktails which you can sip as you enjoy bites like grilled cheese sandwiches and bop your head to the live music.

The Blind Barber’s décor includes the use of luxuriant green and pink velvet seats, tables in terrazzo, walls in copper, plus a sizable projection wall used for screening films or sports games. The hours are from 10 am to 7 pm while the cocktail lounge opens at 5 pm. Both are open daily.

The Faena Festival Returns

Art Basel is perhaps Miami Beach’s largest and best known art-related event but if you dig a little deeper, you’ll find there is much more going on. This year, for example, the city will welcome the Faena Festival for the second time around.

Unlike Art Basel which focuses on a richly broad array of art in different mediums, the Faena Festival concentrates on spirituality and ritual. This year’s event is being dubbed “The Last Supper” and will bring a host of installations, videos, performances, and commissions depicting topics like religion, food, and more. Some of the names visitors can expect to see include Gabriel Chaile, Zhang Huan, and Myrlande Constant, to name a few.

Speaking of Myrlande Constant, her voodoo flags will adorn the lobby of the upscale Faena Hotel. Zhang Huan’s work will include a pair of buddha sculptures made from incense ash and aluminum, the former expected to be disintegrated on the beach as a symbol of impermanence. Artist Yael Bartana of Israel will showcase her 2013 film Inferno.

There is no cost to attend the Faena Festival which runs from December 2nd through the 8th, coinciding with the Art Basel festivities. The festival will take place across different venues.
