Useful Information Regarding Memorial Day Weekend in Miami Beach

The start of Memorial Day weekend is imminent, which means there will be potentially thousands of people visiting Miami Beach to enjoy all of the events taking place, dining on all of the different food, and also sunbathing on the world famous sunny sands.

Miami Beach’s Memorial Day weekend has been practically synonymous with the popular Urban Beach Week, which is known for its lively parties and concerts centered around hip-hop. However, this year Miami Beach is also playing host to several other events such as the third annual Air and Sea Show as well as its inaugural arts and culture festival titled Re-Frame, which will showcase plenty of South Florida artists.

If you’re among the many planning on visiting Miami Beach, you should be aware of a couple of things. For starters, vehicular traffic will not be permitted on Ocean Drive starting Friday morning through Tuesday morning. There will also be barricades present to cordon off the nightclubs and the many different cafes. Those driving in Miami Beach should know a traffic loop will be in place between Fifth and 16th streets beginning at 7 pm on Saturday through Sunday night.

If you’d rather reduce the chances of having to waste several minutes looking for parking, it is strongly advised that you use the free app ParkMe which shows open spots as well as parking rates. Don’t forget the complimentary trolley is available for you to use.

A Magic City Weekend Beach Brunch

It’s the middle of the week and you may already be setting your sights on where to enjoy a good weekend brunch. If you can’t seem to make up your mind, here are a couple of suggestions you may want to check out.

Upland Miami on Collins Avenue has a menu inspired by California. Located in the trendy South of Fifth area, guests can dine on brunch items like pistachio pizza, chilaquiles, and snapper. For just $26 you can choose the bottomless brunch which includes Florida citrus infused mimosas or all the bloody Marys your body can handle.

Also on Collins Avenue is Cecconi’s which has a $65 buffet-style brunch. You have the choice of risottos, a raw bar, breads, and so much more. End the brunch with a bite from the dessert table which features cookies, cakes, fruit, gelato, and more. Similar to Upland Miami, Cecconi’s guests can upgrade to bottomless prosecco, rose, or mimosas for $25.

Up in Bal Harbour to the north, Josh’s Deli on Harding Avenue bills itself as an “undelicatessen” experience. Corned beef benediction with poached eggs and pancakes topped with white chocolate and blueberry are among the brunch options that are perfectly sized for two or three people.

A Taste of Italy is Arriving in South Beach

Looking for a taste of Italy in Miami Beach? Next month, a new eatery will be opening its doors in South Beach, welcoming anyone looking for a taste of the Amalfi Coast, including influences from Naples and the various villages found along the coast. Dubbed Amare Ristorante, the restaurant will welcome guests at its home in the South of Fifth area.

The word “amare” translates as “to love” in Italian and the food is definitely one you’ll fall in love with. The menu is being devised by chef Cosimo Cassano, who has already cultivated his culinary experience working at the Michelin star certified Bacco Osteria in Puglia. Expect to find plenty of options that are rooted in Italian tradition while utilizing fresh local vegetables, spices made in house, and plenty of fresh meat.

Amare will be able to accommodate a total of 54 people in its indoor dining area adorned in colors such as coral azure and white along with Napoli ceramic tiles painted by hand. Since it will offer indoor or al fresco dining, there will also be a terrace spanning well over 3,500 square feet providing vistas of South Beach.Amare’s Ristorante’s address will be 1 Collins Avenue.

Try a New Italian Place

Lincoln Eatery has been generating lots of attention since its opening, but new food hotspots are always opening up in Miami Beach. In fact, a new eatery is making its debut on the last day of February in none other than the trendy South of Fifth area.

This weekend, be sure and check out Amare, an Italian eatery featuring cuisine inspired by the Amalfi Coast. The cuisine is the vision of chef Cosimo Cassano, who has already proved his culinary skills during his time creating foods at Bacco Ristorante in Barletta, which is Michelin star certified.

As you might guess, Cassano’s menu is heavily influenced by Italy and it includes several classic dishes such as pasta filled with lobster, tartar and carpaccio, sea bass, and plenty of seafood and meat choices. The eatery will also have different specials each day like beef craciola, spicy Italian sausage ragu, and many more.

Much like the food being served, the theme of Amare will incorporate Italian flashes while using colors such as coral, blue, and white. In fact, its ceramic tiles are directly imported from Naples. Guests will also find an espresso bar plus a dessert station. The dining area can accommodate a total of 54 guests. Don’t forget to visit the terrace to enjoy the South Beach ambiance.

You’ll find Amare at 1 Collins Avenue.

A Guide to Lincoln Eatery

The time has arrived, ladies and gentlemen! The Lincoln Eatery has finally opened its doors this week in Miami Beach, welcoming locals and tourists to what will likely be the coolest spot for many months to come. If you’re thinking of braving the curious crowds this weekend, here are a couple of foods you may wish to try while you’re there.

You may want to start things off with the pastrami sandwiches being served at Marble & Rye or you can head over to Necessary Purveyor and give its pimento cheese sandwich a try. Made from sustainable ingredients, it’s definitely worth a try. The turkey avocado is another delectable option worth trying.

No food hall in South Florida would be complete without a broad selection of Hispanic food. If empanadas sound like a great time, you’ll be pleased to know you can find plenty of them over at Patagonia Flavors including mushroom, chicken, cheese, and more.

Are you more of a raw fish fan? Look no further than the sushi being served at TYO. The spicy tuna served on top of a rice cake adorned with bits of ginger might just hit the right spot.

Lincoln Eatery is located at 723 North Lincoln Lane. Have fun and bon appétit!

Big Plans for Iconic Miami Beach Sign

For the countless numbers of residents and tourists that have entered Miami Beach via the Julia Tuttle Causeway, the “Welcome to Miami Beach” sign has been there to greet them. If all goes according to plan, it could be seeing some significant changes this year.

The company that’s taken care of many of the signs and displays in the barrier island recently submitted a proposal that would involve adding an LED display to the Miami Beach welcome sign. The current physical “Welcome to Miami Beach” letters would be swapped out in favor of a similarly sized rectangular screen. The display would use colors complementing the rings on the palm trees found behind the welcome sign that are able to change colors. These lights have been in place since 2007 and are typically changed to celebrate events and holidays.

The plans to update the Miami Beach welcome sign have not been embraced without some pushback. Miami Beach Commissioners have expressed concerns that the LED display could be used for advertising purposes. On the other hand, however, the LED sign could also be useful as a way to provide instructions in the event of an evacuation or a special event.

Do you think the Miami Beach welcome sign should stay as is or is it need of a makeover?

Miami Beach May Crack Down on Smoking

Here’s something you may not have known about Florida: it’s among the few states in the country where municipalities do not have the legal authority to make decisions regarding the use of tobacco. In the case of Miami Beach, this meant the city was limited to putting up signs near the South Beach area where people were encouraged to remain smoke-free.

This may be changing.

A Florida Senator is proposing Senate Bill 218 to the Florida Legislature. If the bill passes all of its necessary hurdles, it would ban lighting up cigarettes on public beaches by making smoking on these beaches a civil infraction. Violators would face a fine of about $25 or they may be required to perform a couple of hours of community service.

The polite sign hasn’t been as effective as hoped. Over in Hollywood to the north, a similar “please don’t smoke” approach was taken after commissioners decided not to pursue an outright ban. Most people found the signs to be a waste of money because there was no way to enforce.

Should the bill become law, Florida will follow in the footsteps of New Jersey which is also implementing a similar law this year.

Get Ready for the Art Week Parties

Miami Art Week is about to kick off, bringing with it a ton of different satellite art fairs and the biggest art event of them all, Art Basel Miami Beach. While there will be tons of artwork to enjoy, there will also be lots of partying going on, and the following are some of the notable ones worth mentioning.

The Montreal-based label Turbo Recordings is celebrating its 20th anniversary at the posh Delano in Miami Beach next Thursday, December 6. Its founder Tiga is currently touring throughout North America and he’ll be providing plenty of throwbacks during the event. Best of all, there is no admission fee as long as you RSVP.

Another label getting ready to throw a celebratory event is Republic Records, which is hosting its own party at the Surf Lodge next Friday, December 7 at the Confidante in Miami Beach. The annual event will include an ArtNew and YoungArts’ dinner celebrating the Inside Out Project and there will also be a surprise performer making an appearance. Considering Republic is home to bestselling artists like Drake, it should be an exciting event.

We hope you have a fun, informative, and safe time at the art and party events!

Events Beyond Miami Art Week

While all eyes are on the arrival of Miami Art Week and the imminent start of Art Basel, there are plenty of people who would rather not deal with the massive crowds and the busier streets as thousands visit the barrier island to check out all of the artwork. For those that appreciate art but want something potentially less crowded, here are some suggestions.

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is known for its gorgeous natural sights. The Coral Gables-based attraction is currently running its gorgeous NightGarden which features a mix of sound effects, holograms, mazes, sculptures and more to create some intriguing visual sights that are absolutely perfect for sharing on social media.

The Gold Dust Motel on Biscayne Boulevard is the host of the intriguing Miami Motel Stories: MiMo event running every Friday and Saturday until the 23rd of December. Purchase a ticket and you’ll receive a key that will allow you to enter certain motel rooms and hear the stories of unique characters.

South Dade Cultural Arts Center is bringing “winter” to South Florida via the Winter Holiday Celebrations event where the entire family can enjoy activities like holiday crafts, great food, a photo op with Santa, and much more. The event is happening over in Cutler Bay on December 7 and there is no cost to attend.
