Welcome 2018 in Miami Beach

The clock is ticking towards the arrival of 2018, and if there’s one city in the country that knows how to welcome the arrival of the new year, it’s definitely Miami. If you don’t have any plans for New Year’s Eve and need some suggestions, we have a few.

Probably the best place to be during any holiday festivities is the Fontainebleau, and this year is no exception. The Fontainebleau will host several musical acts including singer Demi Lovato as well as Norwegian DJ Kygo and Justin Bieber who will be making a repeat appearance when they perform poolside. Rapper Travis Scott is also scheduled to perform at LIV on New Year’s Day. The celebrations begin at 9 pm.

Have you been to Drinkhouse Fire & Ice? If you haven’t, New Year’s Eve is as good a time as any. Visit the 23-degree ice bar and sip on some (literally) cool drinks before heading over to the cocktail lounge for fire shows and a celebratory toast to 2018. The party starts at 8 pm.

Afro-Cuban funk collective Palo! will perform by the pool at the Social Club at Surfcomber Hotel. With your admission, you’ll be able to check out the open bar, the concert, and you can also check out the dinner packages. The celebrations begin at 8 pm and tickets start at $80.

PULSE Miami Beach Opens Today

The Art Basel Miami Beach festivities are kicking off today, but that’s not the only art-related event taking place in South Florida. Also opening its doors today is the 13th edition of the PULSE Contemporary Art Fair. The fair aims to connect an international community of budding and established galleries with a dynamic platform to reach an audience around the world.

This year’s PULSE has a new director who has done an incredible job of welcoming more than sixty galleries from five continents. She is also debuting more than twelve first time exhibitors at this year’s fair.

With so much different art to check out, there are a couple worth noting that you may want to admire during your visit, beginning with the Christopher Moller Gallery which is representing artist Tony Gum. Gum will be showcasing her most recent work titled ‘Ode to She’ which captures the essence of what it means to be a Xhosa woman, a Bantu ethnic group of Southern Africa.

Nigerian artist Nnenna Okore is known for her elaborate organic and twisted structures intended to emulate the fine details of the trees, fabric, and topography of her time spent as a child in Nigeria.

PULSE begins today and will remain open until Sunday, December 10. The fair is being held at Indian Beach Park on Collins Avenue.

Get Ready for an All-New Art Basel

When Art Basel opens its doors to the public tomorrow, the experience will be significantly different for those who have attended any of the previous fifteen incarnations of the event. A number of welcome changes and additions are in store, from new champagne bars to the larger booths and wider aisles making it easier to get around and admire the eclectic profusion of artwork.

With over 200 galleries showcasing work, receptions, and talks, it may prove difficult to soak in everything Art Basel has in store but there are a couple of highlights worth mentioning. Robert Rauschenberg’s “Periwinkle Shaft” is a massive piece which originally began as a fourteen-foot-tall painting in the late 1970s. Today, it consists of five panels featuring collage and acrylic on wood.

American video and performance artist Kalup Linzy will perform live each afternoon during Art Basel, including creating art on the spot as a drag character going by the name of Katonya.

Art Basel’s public sector will feature more than seven distinct sculptural works and installations, and you won’t have to pay a dime to admire them. Daniel Knorr’s “Navel of the World” is one example, which depicts his comments on body piercing while the name of Manuela Viera-Gallo’s “Domestic Violence: Morir Matando” is self-explanatory.

Check out These Miami Beach Restaurants

The holidays are the perfect time to get out and explore some new restaurants. Who knows? You may end up finding one you enjoy so much it becomes your go-to favorite for 2018. Should you need some guidance, we have a few suggestions located right here in Miami Beach.

Let’s begin with Stubborn Seed located right here in the trendy South of Fifth area. The restaurant is one of two new restaurants launched by a former Top Chef contestant. Don’t let Stubborn Seed’s somewhat unusual name fool you. The atmosphere is refreshingly unpretentious considering its Washington Avenue location. Stick to one of the classic desserts or go for one of the dishes like the citrus braised celery root or herb roasted wagyu.

To the northwest on Bay Road is Lutum located next door to the El Grito mezcaleria. Lutum is all about celebrating Miami’s incredibly rich and diverse array of cultures, which means its menu offerings vary wildly. Try the burger of the week or maybe some falafel Scotch eggs.

Just around the corner from Lutum is Soul Tavern on West Avenue, a vegetarian gastropub featuring typical foods like pizza, fries, and burgers, all without meat. For drinks try one of the Chinese herbal elixirs or a cold-pressed juice.

Target Comes to South Beach

There’s a widely held belief that it is impossible to enter a Target without ending up with a bunch of other items you otherwise had no intention of purchasing. For those living in South Beach, they will soon get to experience this for themselves as the retail giant plans to open its first store in the area, albeit in a smaller format.

Target is one of the stores shoppers will find at the “BLVD at Lenox”, a new shopping center set to occupy the former home of the now defunct Ivy nightclub. Groundbreaking on the project is scheduled to kick off early next year with a projected completion in the spring of 2019. Unlike the typical big box Target, this smaller version will measure 33,000 and will focus on appealing to a younger demographic, with a strong focus on picking up online orders in store. It will be the second of these smaller stores to debut in Florida, the first one having opened earlier this year in Gainesville.

The vibrant lifestyle in South Beach just got even more exciting with the introduction of a brand new Target store. This addition, besides complementing the luxury residence at Continuum in South Beach, also brings in convenience and accessibility to high-quality products for residents, making daily living a truly enjoyable experience.

Talking of enjoyment reminds us of another interesting development impacting people globally and specifically in New Zealand – the rising trend of online casinos. Many of these casinos are now accepting digital payments for added convenience. Cutting-edge online platforms like https://icasino-reviews.co.nz/paypal-casino-nz/ are becoming a popular destination for those looking to enjoy an immersive casino experience right from the comfort of their homes.

Just like Target offers everyday essentials to cater to the shopping needs of the residents of South Beach, the PayPal casino NZ facilitates seamless transactions for online gaming enthusiasts in New Zealand. Both have rapidly become popular by ensuring customer satisfaction through convenience, versatility, and a rich and rewarding experience.

So let the good times roll, whether you’re shopping at the newest Target store in South Beach or trying your luck at Paypal Casinos in New Zealand, both offer an experience that’s hard to match. Live life to the fullest, one moment at a time, wherever you are.

As brick and mortar stores continue to grapple with adapting towards the strong advent of online retailers, Target is reinventing its image. The retailer is in the process of remodeling some of its current stores to place a greater focus on online sales while also signing on exclusive brands.

Pitbull Has Big Plans for Miami Beach

If you live in Miami, chances are you’re very familiar with a certain celebrity who goes by the monikers of “Mr. 305” or “Mr. Worldwide”. If you guessed Pitbull, you are correct! The rapper has become quite the star in the Magic City as well as throughout the world. The Miami native legally known as Armando Christian Pérez has had several hits including “Give Me Everything”, “Feel This Moment” featuring Christina Aguilera, and “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)”.

With his undying support for Miami and reinforcing its worldwide exposure, Pitbull recently made headlines after it was reported he will be launching a new project. No, it’s not a new album (he already did that earlier this year). Instead, Pitbull plans to open a new restaurant in what is arguably South Florida’s hottest thoroughfare: Ocean Drive. The eatery will be called iLov305 and will occupy the Bon Air Hotel’s former home. Considering his status as a major Miami celebrity, it’s almost a guarantee iLov305 will become a major success.

The restaurant business is not an entirely new endeavor for Pitbull. In 2012, he became an equity partner in Miami Grill, a well-known local favorite formerly known as Miami Subs Grill.

Check out the New and Improved LIV

In terms of Miami Beach’s best party hotspots, few places reach the popularity and acclaim of longtime favorite LIV on Collins Avenue. The club closed its doors for the summer season to undergo a massive, $10 million makeover and recently reopened. The new LIV is a “360-degree experience” created in collaboration with an acclaimed design firm.

Among the numerous highlights of the new LIV are the numerous LED panels designed to produce light that move along to the rhythm of the high-energy dance music. These lights are attached to an enormous “spider” that drops from the dome, hovering over guests as they dance the night away. A pair of winding staircases will lead guests to new plush banquettes while the projection-mapped stage boasts customized backdrops. There is also plenty of artwork to admire created by local artists found along LIV’s walls.

LIV originally opened its doors in 2007 and has since become a preferred hotspot for locals, celebrities, and athletes. Some of the names that have celebrated at the club include former Miami Heat player Dwyane Wade and it has also welcomed musical acts such as producer DJ Khaled and singer-songwriter Justin Bieber.

LIV is located at 4441 Collins Avenue in the Fontainebleau.

Try These Great Miami Beach Restaurants

Every so often it’s worth taking a moment to mention some of the best places to try in and around Miami Beach. Whether you’re a longtime local or someone who plans on moving to South Beach, you may want to give these places a try the next time you’re trying to decide where to eat.

If you’ve spent any time in New York, you may be familiar with Artichoke Basille’s Pizza. The popular NYC hangout recently debuted right here in South Beach, in Ricky’s South Beach to be precise. Have an entire pie or just a slice of the Sicilian Pizza, Margherita Pizza, or the namesake pizza which includes not only artichokes but also spinach, pecorino romano cheese, and more.

Lutum over on Bay Road is a product of the team behind the mezcaleria known as El Grito. For those interested, the menu includes plenty of food options inspired by Miami’s richly distinct array of cultures. This means you can try everything from falafel Scotch eggs to a good old-fashioned burger.

Not far from Lutum on West Avenue is Soul Tavern, a vegetarian gastropub located in the area of Sunset Harbour. Have some burgers and fries or pizza all without the usual meat or try some of the cold-pressed juices and Chinese herbal elixirs.

A Brief Look into South Beach’s History

Today, South Beach is home to some of the most valuable real estate in the southeastern United States, including the Continuum condos. Considering its status today, it’s worth going back and exploring a bit of its humble beginnings.

South Beach originally started off as farmland. In the late 1870s, several acres of it were purchased by Charles and Henry Lum for the purpose of coconut farming. Charles Lum would go on to build the area’s first ever beach house in 1886. By the late 1890s, the Lum siblings had moved on and left American Quaker farmer John Collins in charge of the plantation.

It wasn’t until 1913 that entrepreneur Carl G. Fisher arrived in South Beach and began devising plans to turn the area into a thriving metropolis. By 1915, Fisher, Collins, and Miami businessmen the Lummus Brothers joined forces to incorporate the Town of Miami Beach.

In 1920, South Beach grew by leaps and bounds, attracting the attention of notable millionaires like Harvey Firestone and James Cash “J. C.” Penney. The following decade saw the rise of the area’s distinctive Art Deco architecture and by 1940, there were nearly 30,000 people living there. South Beach would experience even greater popularity in the 1960s when comedian, actor, and writer Jackie Gleason brought his namesake variety series to the area.
