Useful Information Regarding Memorial Day Weekend in Miami Beach

The start of Memorial Day weekend is imminent, which means there will be potentially thousands of people visiting Miami Beach to enjoy all of the events taking place, dining on all of the different food, and also sunbathing on the world famous sunny sands.

Miami Beach’s Memorial Day weekend has been practically synonymous with the popular Urban Beach Week, which is known for its lively parties and concerts centered around hip-hop. However, this year Miami Beach is also playing host to several other events such as the third annual Air and Sea Show as well as its inaugural arts and culture festival titled Re-Frame, which will showcase plenty of South Florida artists.

If you’re among the many planning on visiting Miami Beach, you should be aware of a couple of things. For starters, vehicular traffic will not be permitted on Ocean Drive starting Friday morning through Tuesday morning. There will also be barricades present to cordon off the nightclubs and the many different cafes. Those driving in Miami Beach should know a traffic loop will be in place between Fifth and 16th streets beginning at 7 pm on Saturday through Sunday night.

If you’d rather reduce the chances of having to waste several minutes looking for parking, it is strongly advised that you use the free app ParkMe which shows open spots as well as parking rates. Don’t forget the complimentary trolley is available for you to use.

Enjoy Miami Beach with Your Four-Legged Best Friend

During the month of May, we’re celebrating not only the mothers and maternal figures in our lives, but we’re also celebrating the members of the family with a pair of extra legs. That’s right, May is National Pet Month and Miami Beach is one of the best cities to spend it with your four-legged best friend. If you’re looking to venture beyond the Continuum for some fun with your pet, check out these places.

Lodging with Fido can be a great time, especially if it’s at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach. Pamper your pooch at this popular Miami Beach hotspot which includes spacious pet-friendly rooms plus amenities just for them. You’ll also receive a “return to” dog tag at no additional cost.

There will come a time when you want to have some food. You can, for instance, visit Shake Shack which has a menu dedicated solely to pets. Have Fido dine on a poochini which consists of peanut butter or have them chow down on a biscuit.

When you’re both ready to hit the town, South Pointe Beach will let you experience the South Beach area and it also includes pet-friendly playgrounds plus trails where you and your pooch can enjoy a view of the waterfront. Between 6 to 9 pm on weekdays, there is also a leash-free area where you can let your pet roam freely.

A Magic City Weekend Beach Brunch

It’s the middle of the week and you may already be setting your sights on where to enjoy a good weekend brunch. If you can’t seem to make up your mind, here are a couple of suggestions you may want to check out.

Upland Miami on Collins Avenue has a menu inspired by California. Located in the trendy South of Fifth area, guests can dine on brunch items like pistachio pizza, chilaquiles, and snapper. For just $26 you can choose the bottomless brunch which includes Florida citrus infused mimosas or all the bloody Marys your body can handle.

Also on Collins Avenue is Cecconi’s which has a $65 buffet-style brunch. You have the choice of risottos, a raw bar, breads, and so much more. End the brunch with a bite from the dessert table which features cookies, cakes, fruit, gelato, and more. Similar to Upland Miami, Cecconi’s guests can upgrade to bottomless prosecco, rose, or mimosas for $25.

Up in Bal Harbour to the north, Josh’s Deli on Harding Avenue bills itself as an “undelicatessen” experience. Corned beef benediction with poached eggs and pancakes topped with white chocolate and blueberry are among the brunch options that are perfectly sized for two or three people.

Where to Eat in April

Every so often, we like to highlight some of the best places to enjoy a meal in South Florida. You can never have too many options when it comes to food choices, so why limit yourself? Here are some suggestions to consider as we make it through the rest of April.

The Jim and Neesie is located inside the recent Generator Hostel, on Collins Avenue right here in Miami Beach. Enjoy a variety of drinks plus cocktails and plenty of distinct dishes like crispy skin airline chicken or the citrus roasted carrots. The ambiance is the perfect fusion of hip yet approachable.

Moving over to neighbor Miami, Maska on 1st Avenue features an Indian inspired menu courtesy of Michelin level chef Hemant Mathur. The menu also incorporates some modern dishes. Some items you may wish to try include duck-filled tacos, one of the various stuffed breads, or maybe the much beloved tandoori lamb chops.

Just north of Maska is Swan & Bar Bevy. A collaborative effort by David Grutman (a local Miami hospitality mogul), singer and producer Pharrell Williams, and Europe Top Chef winner Jean Imbert, this place offering a “modern chic” has the glitz, the glam, and the taste. Go for the caviar tossed spaghetti or head upstairs for a drink at Bohemian-influenced Bar Bevy.

A Deeper Look into iLov305

In case you haven’t heard, the newest place to have a meal and party it up is at iLov305, the Latin steakhouse and entertainment venue located on Ocean Drive. A venture by “Mr. 305” himself Pitbull, the 9,000 square foot eatery sits next door to one of the most famous sights on South Beach: Casa Casuarina, the former mansion of the late fashion designer Gianni Versace.

Exploring iLov305, you’ll notice it is comprised of a pair of levels featuring seating for lounging and dining. On the lower levels, the counters are wide enough that dancers can walk across them as they perform for guests. There are also several VIP areas with black leather seats and doors meant for privacy, plus a so-called “Dale!” room. This room can be reserved for special occasions provided Pitbull himself isn’t hanging out in there, and it includes a bathroom plus a bar.

While iLov305 is all about the celebratory atmosphere, the food is also worth mentioning. The menu devised by chefs Todd Williams and Bryan Ogden feature items such as paellas, ceviche, and of course, steak. The desserts are a major food highlight, with creative options like the giant fortune cookie.

The address for iLov305 is 1060 Ocean Drive.

Try a New Italian Place

Lincoln Eatery has been generating lots of attention since its opening, but new food hotspots are always opening up in Miami Beach. In fact, a new eatery is making its debut on the last day of February in none other than the trendy South of Fifth area.

This weekend, be sure and check out Amare, an Italian eatery featuring cuisine inspired by the Amalfi Coast. The cuisine is the vision of chef Cosimo Cassano, who has already proved his culinary skills during his time creating foods at Bacco Ristorante in Barletta, which is Michelin star certified.

As you might guess, Cassano’s menu is heavily influenced by Italy and it includes several classic dishes such as pasta filled with lobster, tartar and carpaccio, sea bass, and plenty of seafood and meat choices. The eatery will also have different specials each day like beef craciola, spicy Italian sausage ragu, and many more.

Much like the food being served, the theme of Amare will incorporate Italian flashes while using colors such as coral, blue, and white. In fact, its ceramic tiles are directly imported from Naples. Guests will also find an espresso bar plus a dessert station. The dining area can accommodate a total of 54 guests. Don’t forget to visit the terrace to enjoy the South Beach ambiance.

You’ll find Amare at 1 Collins Avenue.

Enjoy Pizza by the Beach

Pizza is definitely one of those foods that has near-universal appeal when it comes to how much it’s liked. With the huge variety of toppings available and crusty types, it’s also one of those foods that allow you to get very creative. If you’re looking for some pizza in Miami Beach, these suggestions may become your new favorite spot.

In the Flamingo Lummus area is Blocks Pizza Deli on Washington Avenue. A quick visit to Yelp reveals over four stars and more than 400 reviews. If pizza isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other foods to try with an Italian twist.
Another Italian spot is Spris, located in Miami Beach’s City Center. Like Blocks, it has over four stars and hundreds of reviews singing the eater’s praises. Try the pizza and then go for a walk on Lincoln Road.

In South Beach is Fratelli La Bufala, yet another Italian spot that also offers delectable pizza plus plenty of other Italian-themed food choices. With more than 700 reviews, it’s safe to say this place is definitely worth your time.
We’ve arguably saved the best for last. Mister 01 on Michigan Avenue remains the highest rated of Miami Beach’s many pizza hotspots.

Enjoy These Spots During SOBEWFF

All eyes are on the South Beach Wine & Food Festival (SOBEWFF). If you have yet to figure out what you want to do, here are a few suggestions worth visiting among the profusion of food and drink-related events.

The Yappie Hour is perfect for those that are fans of man’s best friend. But what if your inclinations skew more towards felines? If so, The Cat Cafe South Beach on Washington Avenue invites you to enjoy coffee or tea and then walk over to the cat adoption area for some kitty cuddles.
The late celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain was known to be a frequent patron of Mac’s Club Deuce on 14th Street, often considered to be the last genuine dive bar in the city. Not much about the bar has changed since its opening in the 1960s and you may still spot a culinary celebrity like chef and television personality Anne Burrell.

Inside of Villa Casa Casuarina (the former home of late fashion designer Gianni Versace) is Sushi by Bou, a restaurant measuring a mere 500 square feet. Some of the menu items you may wish to try include soy sauce-marinated ikura, though the menu changes every day. Make sure to request your reservation well in advance.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day in South Florida

The South Florida ambiance is soon to be tinged with an extra aura of love as we celebrate the arrival of another Valentine’s Day. For those of you looking for a place to enjoy the day, it may be a little too late to make reservations, but here are a few to consider.

Atlantikós is located at the St. Regis Bal Harbour. True to its name, the restaurant will be serving up a four-course menu inspired by the Mediterranean that will include dishes such as cobia tartare, Kumamoto oysters, and much more.

The menu will be available beginning at 6:30 and costs $125 per person.
Right here in Miami Beach, Azabu Miami Beach on Ocean Drive will be offering an $80 prix fixe menu in its dining room. Try the Japanese Waygu beef tataki or the marinated Chilean sea bass. Upgrade to the $250 dining experience for something a little more private and romantic.

Bagatelle on 21st Street is featuring an “All You Need Is Love” menu. Bring your significant other and enjoy a welcoming glass of champagne followed by a four-course meal intended for sharing which includes whole stuffed Maine lobster, agnolotti pasta with black truffle, and more for just $75 a person.

A Guide to Lincoln Eatery

The time has arrived, ladies and gentlemen! The Lincoln Eatery has finally opened its doors this week in Miami Beach, welcoming locals and tourists to what will likely be the coolest spot for many months to come. If you’re thinking of braving the curious crowds this weekend, here are a couple of foods you may wish to try while you’re there.

You may want to start things off with the pastrami sandwiches being served at Marble & Rye or you can head over to Necessary Purveyor and give its pimento cheese sandwich a try. Made from sustainable ingredients, it’s definitely worth a try. The turkey avocado is another delectable option worth trying.

No food hall in South Florida would be complete without a broad selection of Hispanic food. If empanadas sound like a great time, you’ll be pleased to know you can find plenty of them over at Patagonia Flavors including mushroom, chicken, cheese, and more.

Are you more of a raw fish fan? Look no further than the sushi being served at TYO. The spicy tuna served on top of a rice cake adorned with bits of ginger might just hit the right spot.

Lincoln Eatery is located at 723 North Lincoln Lane. Have fun and bon appétit!
