Check out These Music and Film Events

It’s only Tuesday, but it’s never too early to start making plans for the weekend. To help you figure out what to do, here are a couple of suggestions kicking off on Friday.

We’ll begin with singer-songwriter and actress Demi Lovato who will be bringing her musical talents to the American Airlines Arena as part of her Tell Me You Love Me World Tour. The pop princess will be joined by R&B singer Kehlani who released her debut album SweetSexySavage to critical acclaim last year. Lovato will also be joined by record producer DJ Khaled, who achieved massive success last year with his Rihanna collaboration “Wild Thoughts”.

Also on Friday, the Coral Gables Art Cinema will screen the various films of acclaimed film director, producer, and screenwriter Wes Anderson. Thee films include The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, and Moonrise Kingdom.

For those who can’t get enough of vinyl and wish to continue expanding their collection, the Miami Record Fair is happening on Saturday at Gramps in the Wynwood area. The fair begins at noon and there is no cost to attend. Enjoy the live music, have some pizza, sip on a cocktail, and trade records with fellow collectors.

Sweet St. Patrick’s Day Treats in Miami

Looking for a St. Patrick’s Day treat beyond the standard green beer? For those with a sweet tooth seeking some festive bites, Miami is serving up plenty of goodies to enjoy. Let’s take a look at a few.

Bread pudding is a classic, and you can enjoy a twist on the dessert by heading over to Batch Gastropub in the Brickell area. This St. Paddy’s variation consists of a Guinness cinnamon soaked in heavy cream with some nutmeg and vanilla seasoning before it’s baked with some chocolate chips. Have you been to the fireman-owned Wynwood bakery better known as Fireman Derek’s Bake Shop? All Set for the Winter Music Conference

Anyone concerned whether the Winter Music Conference (WMC) was going to happen this year can rest assured that yes, it is indeed happening. The three-day event will be held at Miami Beach’s posh Faena Forum, though this year’s event will be comparably smaller in scale when it comes to length. Previous WMC conferences have lasted as long as six days in the past.

The WMC is not to be confused with the other events that take place during the massively popular Miami Music Week like Ultra. Instead, WMC is a music industry gathering involving producers, agents, publicists, musicians, just about anyone that has something to do with the music industry and is looking to network. Some of the panels in store for WMC include licensing and streaming, music publicity, and more. This year’s WMC will also mark the return of the International Dance Awards, featuring just over twenty categories including Best Live Performance and Best Club. The public is welcome to vote in the categories.

Experience These Miami Beach Hotels

Miami Beach hotels nowadays are far more than just another fine place to spend a few nights. Two of the city’s classic hotels are not only welcoming guests but also keeping things fresh by offering a slew of exciting new offerings for those that want to try something new.

The Betsy on Ocean Drive in South Beach underwent an expansion back in 2016, annexing Collins Avenue’s classic Carlton Hotel. Miami Beach May Add More Cameras

In an effort to make the city safer for everyone, Miami Beach is currently in the middle of developing a plan that would place police cameras on every corner of the South Beach area, beginning at the eastern end of Washington Avenue to the beach. The plan would also involve having license plate readers. Currently, Miami Beach has just over thirty cameras located in popular areas such as Lummus Park, Ocean Drive, and the beach walk.

The Chief of Miami Beach Police has stressed that these cameras would be used solely for the purpose of tackling crime and will not be shared with any vendors or insurance companies, according to the CBS Miami article. Should everything go according to plan, the plan would cost about $8 million dollars over a five year period, with the goal of adding a greater degree of security for Miami Beach residents as well as the many tourists that frequent the city.

Miami Beach isn’t the first popular tourism spot to install police cameras. Popular cities like New York and London also have surveillance networks in place.

Revamped Miami Beach Convention Center Will Open Soon

After more than two years of construction, the finishing touches are finally underway for the revamped Miami Beach Convention Center. The building is expected to open its renovated doors in six months, with a partial opening taking place sometime next month.

The Miami Beach Convention Center’s renovation is part of a massive $600+ million project aimed at restoring and expanding the classic facility. This new and improved version will boast more than 1.3 million square feet and it will also include a huge 50,000+ square foot grand ballroom. Future visitors will also find additional enhancements including new indoor and outdoor spaces.

Attendance and business at the convention center have had a tricky time due to the construction, which has remained partially open only for certain shows and events such as last year’s popular Art Basel. Large scale shows are typically held at the facility throughout the year. The first major convention center event is scheduled to take place later this year on September 23.

For the average person, however, attending them can be expensive due to the asking prices for admission.
