A Guide to Annual Miami Beach Fashion Events

Miami Beach is known all over the world for it’s exciting but relaxing tropical living, and the beautiful beaches found here have inspired many in their personal style concepts. Miami Beach itself has also evolved into creating a space for its own local fashion scene, here you will find many annual fashion events such as Miami Fashion Week, Funkshion Fashion Week Miami Beach, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim and Art Basel. These fashion events and more are becoming as internationally recognized as Miami Beach itself. Here we look at some of the fashion events that are supporting the growth of Miami Beach’s fashion scene.

Miami Fashion Week

Every March, Miami Beach is treated to Miami Fashion Week, taking place at Miami Beach Convention center. This annual event has grown to become an institution in international trendsetting, influencing much more in fashion than just the expected swimwear category. Miami Fashion Week is the longest running fashion week in this region and it gives a platform to an amazing number of Caribbean and Latin American designs in evening wear, denim, jewlery, and children’s apparel. Also, this fashion week features a wedding pavilion, which has proven to be a very important resource for brides-to-be and bridal buyers. This fashion week, gives Miami’s take on fashion, which is inclusive and international as is Miami Beach.

Funkshion Fashion Week Miami Beach

Across the street from the Miami Fashion Week Shows, you will find Funkshion Fashion Week, which is a four-day event that combines the artistry of music and fashion for energy filled and edgy shows. What’s special about this event is that it includes the work of emerging designers, who are the next generation of fashion and style creators, as well as featuring established labels like Chloé, who use the event to show a secondary collection that is more accessible and moderately priced. Also, the designers hose which DJs they will use in their shows, and the music often reflects the countries of origin of the designers. This show is fashion at it’s most accessible, as it is free and open to the public.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

For the summer, the biggest fashion event is Mercedes-Benz Fashion week, which has gained influence in showcasing the beach trends for the year to come and when it comes to beach fashion, Miami Beach is the place. This fashion week is known for premiering accessible brands like BCBG Max Azria, and Mara Hoffman, as well as features collections making a debut. This show, is an international beach affair.

These and more fashion events are helping to turn Miami Beach into an international fashion hub.

An Architect’s Plan to Renovate Ocean Drive

The latest plans to renovate the famed Ocean Drive, would bring quite a bit of changes to this historical area, which is near the luxurious Continuum South Beach.

One of the changes that would occur to Ocean Drive, according to the latest discussed plans, would be ‘tabletopping’ or elevating the entirety of the automotive street bed to the same level of the sidewalks, which would blur the borders between the pedestrian zone and the car zone. The plans also include putting in waist-high poles to use as a border, as well as covering the whole thing in a bold pattern that would fit the Ocean Drive aesthetic.

These plans were presented by Architect Allan Shulman, who had a meeting with the Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board recently, along with other plans that were also presented, including one idea which was closing Ocean Drive to traffic completely.

The goal of renovating Ocean Drive would be to improve the overcrowded sidewalks of Ocean Drive. The options of having the street closed to traffic or making it into a one-way street, would make it inconvenient for businesses along the street. Also, hotel owners spoke about how they thought it might make it difficult for people to check in and out of their hotels. Alternatively, with the idea of a “tabletop” road, drivers would still be able to drive through the area while driving in a slow-go zone.

Another idea also included widening and reconfiguring the sidewalk. Also, any of these options, would include having restaurant tables moved closer to the hotels, as to give more space to pedestrians.

As it stands now, no plans have been approved by both the board and the full city commission.

As mentioned, the ever popular area of Ocean Drive is situated close to the luxurious Continuum South Beach in the tranquil South Pointe area. If you would like to learn about the Continuum South Tower, contact Tim Allen at 305.588.2451.

The City of Miami’s Plans for an Observation Tower, SkyRise

Among the many things to love about Continuum South Beach — aside from all the luxurious residences and amenities — is its central location near some of the most exciting attractions — old and new — in south Florida.

Right now is an especially exciting time to be in the middle of all the action, as Miami evolves into one of the world’s premier centers of culture and leisure. This is evidence by the ambitious SkyRise, which was approved to begin construction in the City of Miami’s bayfront area (within walking distance of Bayside and just a short drive from South Beach).

In addition to offering a uniquely futuristic addition to the city’s already renowned skyline, Skyrise will elevate Miami to the status of a truly global city: the world’s most well known cities features creative designed and enduringly iconic towers — and at 1,000 ft, it will be the tallest structure in the city!

The county will allot $9 million for this project, and the funds are set to be used for public infrastructure. According to Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, “It’s a good deal forMiami-DadeCounty. It enhances economic opportunity, and it will create all these projects, and it will create hundreds and thousands of jobs.”

SkyRise Miami is the creation of develop Jeff Berkowits, whose goal was to create a recognizable and cultural icon for the city, Unlike other observation towers, SkyRise will be asymmetrical, facing the Caribbean and South America to welcome the many visitors who come from those regions (and increasingly from around the world.

Not only will the tower serve as a viewing deck, but it will comprise one big recreational center that will include everything from a park to a five-star restaurant, privileged nightclub, and much more. SkyRise will be a treat for people of all lifestyles, and it will be yet another dynamic attraction that is within reach from the Continuum South Beach.

In the interior design world, this is a huge event and the city of Miami is expecting Maison&Objet to continuously evolve such as Art Basel and Swim Week have.

Thus far, there isn’t anything like this particular fair in the United States. The show, Maison&Objet, has aParisshow which has been able to bring in 80,000 visitors, 3,000 trade exhibitors, and 3,500 journalists twice every year. Additionally, according to their website, almost half of the visitors that go to the show are international.

In Miami, the main fair will take place at the Miami Beach Convention Center and it is expected to attract 6,000 visitors, with 200 exhibitors, and about 250 journalists, many of them coming from all over the world. Hopefully, the City of Miami will be taking after the Maison&Objet show in Singapore which was very successful in it’s premiere year this year and will therefore be happening again next March.

Miami is a great choice for the show as it will get the attention of visitors from North America and Latin America. Plus, Maison&Objet will also be featuring a lot of community involvement as a big focus of the show, even though the details have not been confirmed yet.
