Miami Beach’s Spring Break Rules

Miami Beach is the place to be for spring thanks to its incredible beaches, rich nightlife, and wealth of culture. To keep things in control, however, the city is implementing several rules to make sure the festivities don’t get too out of control. If you haven’t read up on what these rules are, keep reading for more information.

To begin with, drinking alcohol on the beach is forbidden. Visitors that are looking to perfect their suntan should also know that tents, coolers, tables, and inflatable devices are prohibited from being used on the beach. Depending on where you plan to settle down the beach chair, the city may also place limits on the number of people allowed in a certain section. Should a section reach its capacity, visitors will be prohibited from entering that area.

In previous years, Miami Beach has shut down portions of Ocean Drive to tackle traffic and boost pedestrian safety. This year is likely to follow the same example. In peak hours, the popular roadway may be fully closed or a portion of it may possibly close between 12th and 5th Street. There will also be limits in place when it comes to streets visitors have access to, which may be open solely to people that live in Miami Beach or employees and patrons of local businesses.

The time of the year food and drink lovers look forward to is soon to arrive. The 2019 South Beach Wine & Food Festival is returning, celebrating anything and everything that involves culinary. This year’s celebrations kick off on the 20th through the 24th and we’re here to share some of the highlights worth checking out.

English celebrity chef Robert Irvine is coming back to Miami Beach to host Craft-y Happy Hour at the Mondrian South Beach. Tickets are $95 and the party kicks off at 5:30. Enjoy cocktails while you potentially chat with the chef and former CW talk show host himself.
The Eden Roc Hotel is hosting the Rose Pool Party with American chef and restaurateur Geoffrey Zakarian on the 23rd at three o’clock. The event serves as something of an homage to rose and besides the party, attendees will also enjoy various bites courtesy of the hotel.

The South Beach Wine & Food Festival may be intended primarily for humans, but pooches can also get in on the fun during Nulo Pet Food’s Yappie Hour at Loews Miami Beach on the 23rd. Kids and four-legged friends are welcome at this event hosted by Katie Lee.

Lincoln Road Seeks a Makeover

Is Lincoln Road in need of a facelift? The South Beach tourism mainstay hasn’t undergone a makeover in many years, and it could definitely use some sprucing up. Whether it’s replacing and installing some new lighting or replacing some of the worn pavement, the outdoor mall may benefit from some new touches to keep it competitive with Miami’s other notable tourism hotspots like the Brickell area and the artsy Wynwood neighborhood.

While Miami Beach figures out how to go about financing Lincoln Road’s $77 makeover, there is already a master plan in place developed by the same firm that designed the popular High Line over in New York City.

Plans to spruce up Lincoln Road have been in the works for about five years now. These plans would likely include adding more green spaces to the roadway, building additional spots for the public to sit, rethinking the organization of the outdoor tables seen at the many various cafes, adding performance spaces, as well as improving the artwork.

Do you think Miami Beach’s Lincoln Road is in need of a much-needed makeover or is its current state part of its unique charm? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Get Your Palate Ready for Lincoln Eatery

After much anticipation and coverage last month, the Lincoln Eatery is finally getting ready to open its doors on the 17th of this month. Located just off of Lincoln Road near the new and improved Miami Beach Convention Center, the food hall was originally supposed to open during the fall of last year to take advantage of the holiday season.

When it opens, Lincoln Eatery will have lots of distinct dining and drinking options on the first floor of the building where Marshall’s stands. Visitors will also have the option of dining indoors or out and with seats for about 200, there will be plenty of spots to sit on busier days. Some of the vendors guests can expect to find include Manhattan Paletas, Necessary Purveyor, TYO Sushi, Patagonia Flavors, and more. Those that need their caffeine fix will also find XO Espresso Bar at Lincoln Eatery. The Tavern Bar, meanwhile, will serve a variety of cocktails plus wine and beer.

While Lincoln Eatery is the first food hall opening in the barrier island, it will eventually be joined by the Time Out Market, set to open its doors next month on Miami Beach’s Drexel Avenue. Lincoln Eatery’s address will be 723 Lincoln Lane.

On a more serious note, artist Zoe Buckman is showcasing her “He Calls This Talk Banter” work over at Miami Beach’s Standard Spa. Snag a Role in West Side Story

Remember West Side Story? Millions of people have grown up with the Broadway show and musical film, and now legendary director Steven Spielberg is looking to bring the classic back to the big screen. While actor Ansel Elgort has already been cast to play the role of Tony, there is still no word on who will portray the role of Maria. However, the film is currently seeking actors to help fill out the cast, and the auditions are happening right here at the Miami City Ballet.

For those unfamiliar with West Side Story, it began its life as a Broadway musical, debuting in 1957. Inspired by Shakespeare’s iconic play Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story uses the Upper West Side of New York City as its setting during the 1950s. It tells the story of a pair of rival teenage gangs of different ethnicities called the Sharks and Jets and the romance that develops between the aforementioned Tony and Maria. The show ran for more than 700 performances and was nominated for six Tony Awards. In 1961, the musical was adapted into a film and received eleven Academy Award nominations, winning nearly all of them including Best Picture.

For those interested in auditioning for a role in Spielberg’s West Side Story, they should be individuals with a strong dance background between the ages of 15 and 25 that are also able to sing. Auditions will be taking place on October 29.

Whet Your Seafood Appetite in Miami Beach

The South Beach Seafood Festival begins next week and we’re all excited to attend one of the many events in store. For those of us, that just can’t wait that long, there are a couple of new seafood places in Miami Beach you can try in the meantime.

Andina Miami Beach on Alton Road features a mix of Peruvian and Latin American dishes straight from the coast of Peru plus the highlands of the Andes. Seafood lovers may wish to try the ceviche or the grilled octopus. The restaurant currently has a five-star rating on Yelp and more than twenty reviews, so it’s safe to say the food is quite good.

Over on Lincoln Road, La Cerveceria De Barrio is both a traditional Mexican food spot plus a bar featuring a largely seafood-based menu. It is the first location in the country, after originally making its debut in its native Mexico City back in 2006. Guests can try dishes like seafood carpaccio, shrimp stew, plus a raw bar featuring oysters and clams. La Cerveceria De Barrio opens at 11:30 and closes late.

The Cuban food hall El Palacio de los Jugos is on Jefferson Avenue and is part of a larger chain of restaurants found throughout Miami. True to its name, it serves a variety of juices as well as seafood like paella, shrimp, and grilled salmon. There are also sandwiches to try if you prefer a non-pescetarian menu.
